Scouting the Bucs, one unit at a time

September 7, 2015 general

Monday, 6:20 a.m. This is what a 2-14 team looks like. That, too. This 2-14 team needed quarterbacking after two different guys managed one win each. This team had an offensive line that was a mess. This team didn’t rush the quarterback very well. This team lost too many close games. This team sat out […]

Random Thoughts: Bucs not likely to sign Freeman

September 6, 2015 College Sports in Florida

Hello, I’m Tim Tebow. And you know, I hear Canada is fine this time of year. – One reason John McEnroe vs. Serena Williams wouldn’t be as big a deal as Bobby Riggs vs. Billie Jean King. These days, tennis isn’t as big. – Alex Rodriguez is hitting .157 since August 1. Think he needs […]

College roundup: McElwain, QBs sizzle

September 6, 2015 College Sports in Florida

Sunday, 2:54 a.m. There will be, of course, darker days than this. There will be times when Jim McElwain loses, perhaps times when he picks the wrong quarterback, times when the offense doesn’t look so snazzy, times when runners fumble and receivers stumble and officials bumble. Days of the Dolphins: Life on the Miami beat

September 3, 2015 general

Thursday, 6 a.m. The chair was black and beaten, a survivor of the wars. It stood in a corner of Don Shula’s old office at Nova University, weathered by time and worn by abuse. It was lined and faded, as if it had been stitched together from old leather helmets. There was nothing stately about […]

Where, exactly, will Bucs’ defense be better?

September 2, 2015 general

Wednesday, 6:30 a.m. Try not to think about the new quarterback for a minute. Try not to think about the offensive coordinator. Or the refocused running back. Or the rebuilt offensive line. Try not to think of the mismatches the wide receivers might create. Think, instead, of defense. Think of pass-rushers and open-field tacklers and […]
