Boxberger has gone through a rough patch with Rays lately/JEFFREY S. KING

Friday, 6 a.m.

Lately, he throws disappointment.

Lately, he throws heartache.

Lately, he leaves the door cracked. He doesn't close anything.

Lately, no one asks him about his trip to the all-star game.

Look, this is not to pin the woes of the Tampa Bay Rays upon their all-star pitcher. Really, it isn't. All in all, Brad Boxberger is on the plus side of the ledger. These Rays are built around the back of their bullpen and all in all, Boxberger has saved more than he has squandered. Any fair accounting of the Rays at all will tell you that.

It's just that lately, well, there is a little Grant Balfour to him.

And futhermore, ouch.
