Upon further review, the USF is still a bad football team.
Perhaps you had fooled yourself into thinking the Bulls had progressed more than they had over the last three weeks (two wins and a strong showing against Alabama). But the Bulls were clobbered by a 1-4 team from the University of Alabama-Birmingham, 56-35. Against the Blazers, the Bulls no longer looked like a team on the rise.
USF gave up 601 Yards to the Blazers, who had lost four straight. Defensively, they gave up four touchdown passes (and 356 yards passing) to quarterback Jacob Zeno, four touchdown runs to running back Jermaine Brown Jr., and two touchdown receptions (and 119 yards) to receiver Tejhuan Palmer.
The Bulls gave up touchdowns of 75, 61, 21, 23, 49 and 58 yards.
In all, USF gave up 21 more points to UAB than it did to Alabama.
Quarterback Byrum Brown of the Bulls rushed for 136 yards and threw for 260. However, he had two interceptions and a fumble.
USF is home Saturday against Florida Atlantic.
FSU 39, Virginia Tech 17: Running back Trey Benson closed out the Hokies with runs of 62 and 85 yards in the second half as the Seminoles rolled.
Benson had 200 yards for the game for the Seminoles. Quarterback Jordan Travis threw for 170 yards and two scores.
Virginia Tech had just 104 yards passing.
The Seminoles are home Saturday against Syracuse.
Florida 38, Vanderbilt 14: The Gators had an easy time of dispatching Vandy as running back Montrell Johnson Jr. ran for 135 yards.
Florida quarterback Graham Mertz threw for 256 yards and three scores for the Gators, who moved to 4-2 on the season.
The Gators travel to South Carolina on Saturday for a 3:30 game.
