So far, he is not exactly the cavalry.

So far, Freddy Peralta is just one disappointment in a clubhouse filled with them.

The Tampa Bay Rays continued their slide back toward the rest of the AL East Friday night, losing a 5-3 game to a Baltimore team that has had their number.

It was the seventh loss in the last eight meetings with the Orioles -- a span in which the Rays have given up 59 runs -- and seen their divison lead shrink to three and a half games over the Yankees.

It was Peralta's fourth start, and he's still without a win. He gave up seven hits in seven innings, but two of them left the park.

His first pitch of the night was hit for a double. His second pitch of the night was a run-scoring single. His first pitch of the seocnd inning was a home run.

The Rays scored three runs in the second inning. Two of the runs came on a home run by Kenneth Piper.

Ryan Vilade and Junior Caminero each had two hits for the Rays.

The Rays and Orioles play again at 7 p.m. tonight at Camden Yards. Shane McClanahan (9-6) will start for the Rays against Brandon Young (9-3)/
