The season is winding down. Last place, however, is still within reach.
The Tampa Bay Rays were overwhelmed by the Baltimore Orioles Tuesday night, 6-0. That means the O's are just two games behind the Rays with five to play.
This one wasn't close. The Rays managed just two hits -- both singles -- as they were shut out for the 13th time of the season. The Rays were zero-for-seven with runners in scoring position.
Baltimore, which has been in the AL cellar for most of the season, rode Dean Kremer to the win. Kremer went 6 1/3 innings and gave up just one hit. He struck out four.
The Rays managed hits from Chandler Simpson (a single up the middle) and Josh Lowe (an infield hit). They had one walk and a runner hit by pitch, but rarely threatened to score.
Colton Cowser hit a two-run homer for Baltimore.
Ryan Pepiot started for the Rays and lasted just three innings. He gae up threeearned runs. Ian Seymour, working out the bullpen, gave up three in four innings.
The Rays play Baltimore again tonight at 6:25 p.m. at Camden Yards. Shane Baz will pitch for the Raysagainst Tyler Wells.
