They finished pre-season. No one got hurt. The uniforms looked pretty.
Aside from that, the Bucs 23-19 loss to Buffalo didn't mean a lot.
That's the problem with preseason finales. Largely, you're watching players who are bound for the practice squad -- or worse.
So what did we learn?
-- Backup quarterback Kyle Trask seemed to win the backup job. Trask was terrible against the Steelers, but he rebounded to hit 13 of 15 -- and had two drops. It's hard to imagine Teddy Bridgewater winning the backup job with just 11 passes.
-- Receiver Tez Johnson also rebounded from a major return gaffe last week. Johnson caught eight passes for 58 yards and a touchdown.
-- Linebacker Nick Jackson had another six tackles as he tried to find a slot on the roster.
So what did we not learn?
Well, the Bucs' pass defense is still struggling. Granted, none of the regulars played. But Bills’ backup quarterback Shane Buechele hit 25 of 30 passes for 278 yards.
The Bucs' run defense didn't fare well, either. They missed tackles, and they gave up 205 yards on 31 carries.
Buffalo had 30 pass attempts. The Bucs had two sacks.
The Bucs’ ' cutdown day will take place on Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. The team has to get to a 53-man roster, plus 16 practice squad players.
The Bucs will open their regular season on Sept. 7 at Atlanta at 1 p.m.
