To all fields: Time for a great young QB in NFL

On the gridiron…

If these things are indeed cyclical, it is time for the cycle.

For the NFL, and for the rest of us, it is time for another great quarterback.

Peyton Manning is 39. Tom Brady is 38. Drew Brees is 36. The fiercest pass rush any of them face is from father time. Ben Roethlisberger is 33. Phil Rivers is 33. Eli Manning is 34. And so it goes.

A quarterback drops back a few steps at a time, and before long, he has been doing it for years. Aaron Rodgers is 31. Matt Ryan is about to be 30. Joe Flacco is 30. Where did the time go? And Carson Palmer is 35. Tony Romo is 35. Michael Vick is about to be 35. Yes, these guys are passing, but so is time.
