What we have here are a matter of two ships sinking in the night.

Here, we have a bad team. There, we have a worse one. The big question is just which one really is the worst team in the American League.

Oh, if you weigh the entire season, it's the Chicago White Sox, which has the worst record in the league. But lately, the Tampa Bay Rays are making a bid for the title.

The Rays have now now lost five of their last six games, and they're 25-45 since the end of June. The White Sox, as bad as they are, are 38-24 over the same stretch. They've won four of six agains the Rays this year.

The Rays were 0-for-10 on Thursday (1-for-16 in their last two losses). Tampa Bay had the leadoff runner on in five innings.

Rookie Chandler Simpson was four-for-four for the Rays and scored their only run. However, the Rays had only three other hits. Simpson also has 40 steals on the season.

Ian Seymour started for the Rays and gave up two runs in thesecond inning. The White Sox scored three more in the sixth.

The Rays only run came in the eighth when Brandon Lowe singled in Simpson.

The Rays stay in Chicago and take on the Cubs in a three-game set at Wrigley Field at 2:20 p.m. Shane Baz will start for the Rays against Matthew Boyd.
