Diaz gave the Rays a late lead

Sunday, 4 a.m.

There for a minute, it looked as if Yandy Diaz was going to be a hero.

Then Marcus Semien came along.

It shows you how quickly things can change in baseball. One minute, Diaz is circling the bases after his three-run homer gave the Rays a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh inning. It was his third hit of the day.

A couple of outs later, however, Semien hit a two-run shot of his own, a 422-footer, to give the Rangers a 4-3 lead. The Rangers have won both games of the series.

The Rays are now 44-45 on the season.

The Rays had just seven hits on the day, but ave up four of them came in the seventh, including a 373-foot homer by Diaz. It was his eighth homer of the year.

Kevin Kelly struck out two in the bottom of the seventh, but Semien connected on a 1-0 pitch for the winner.

After Diaz’ homer, the Rays had only one hit, an infield single by Randy Arozarena.

Taj Bradley went six innings for the Rays and gave up five hits and one earned run.

The teams wind up their series today at 2:35 p.m. Zack Littell will start for the Rays against Nathan Eovaldi.
