That's the thing about the Tampa Bay Rays when things are going well.
Lately, you can start to believe they will not lose.
After three games when the offense erupted -- 26 runs in three victories -- the Rays came tumbling down to earth. They lost 3-0 to a Cleveland team that is scuffling worse than they are -- nine losses in 10 games.
The Guardians scored three times in the first inning and cruised. Parker Messick pitched seven shutout innings. It was the 12th time this season the Rays have been shut out.
Cleveland jumped on Shane Baz, who lost for the fifth time in six starts. Baz actually pitched better than he has lately, but lost for the fifth time in six games.
Baz rallied and shout out Cleveland hi last five inningsas he fell to 8-11 for the year. The Rays could manage just five hits -- three of them by Yandy Diaz -- in their loss. They were 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position.
The Rays close out their series against Cleveland today at 1:10 p.m. Drew Rasmussen will start for the Rays against Slade Cecconi.
