Figures. One night after scoring 11 runs, riding an offensive rebirth, the bats of the Tampa Bay Rays fell quiet again Tuesday night.
The Rays fell to Boston, 3-1. They managed just three hits and were just one-for-four with runners in scoring position. Hitting against Lucas Giolito, who has been awful this season, the Rays managed just three singles.
In his last outing, Giolito had managed just five outs and gave up seven runs and eight hits. In 25 innings this year, he had given up 17 runs.
Tuesday, the Rays scored only on an infield hit by Yandy Diaz, who drove in Jose Caballero.
The Red Sox got two runs off of Rays’ starter Ryan Pepiot in the first on a double by highly touted prospect Roman Anthony. Trevor Story added a solo homer in the sixth inning.
The Rays and Red Sox finish their series today at 7:10 p.m. Zack Littell will start for the Rays against Walker Buehler.
