The Rays, trying to muster a strong challenge to the AL East lead, lost their fourth game in five tries Tuesday night, falling 4-3 in 10 innings to the Athletics. The A’s are the second-worst team in the American League.

The Rays trailed 2-1 in the seventh inning until catcher Danny Jansen tied the game with a home run.

The A’s tied the game on a two-run homer by Max Muncy and a solo shot by Shea Langeliers.
Shane Baz started for the Rays. He went seven innings and gave up seven hits and three earned runs. He struck out 11.
Chandler Simpson had two hits for the Rays.
Ex-Tampa Bay pitcher Jeffrey Springs gave up just four hits and two earned runs in 5 2/3 innings for the Athletics.
