Remember those glory days of last week. You know, back before the Rays’ bats got sick again.

The Rays lost a 3-1 game to the Oakland A’s Thursday, and frankly, the team was lucky to get a split of its four-game series. While the pitching was sharp, the bats once again turned into kindling wood.

In the four-game series, the Rays scored all of six runs and collected 18 hits against a team battling to stay out of the AL West cellar. Jose Siri accounted for half of those runs, but alas, he didn’t play on Thursday..

In the series, the Rays were 3-22 with runners in scoring position and struck out 41 times.

Rays starter Jeffrey Springs, in his fifth start since returning from the injured list, struggled. He went just 3 1/3 innings and gave up all three runs.

The Rays’ only run scored on a double by Jose Caballero. Christopher Morel had two of the Rays hits.

Tampa Bay now moves to Las Angeles to face the Dodgers tonight at 10:10 p.m. The Rays have not announced a starting pitcher. Bobby Miller will start for the Dodgers,
