At least there is some consolation. If things get any worse for the Tampa Bay Rays, they’ll be scoring in negative numbers.

The Rays’ offense slept through another game Wednesday night, losing 3-0 to the Kansas City Royals. The Rays managed just four hits, none of them coming until the seventh inning.

The funk is nothing new for the Rays. In their last 13 games, they’ve scored one run or fewer in seven of them.

Left-hander Noah Cameron made his major league debut a memorable one, allowing just a single to Curtis Mead in his 6 1/3 innings.

The Rays did draw five walks, which gave them eight opportunities with a runner  in scoring position. They didn’t manage a hit in any of them. It followed an 0-for-4 performance in the first game of the series.

Drew Rasmussen went five innings and gave up three earned runs. His record falls to 1-2. The crushing blow against him came in the first inning when Vinnie Pasquantino hit a two-run homer in the first inning.

Mead, Yandy Diaz, Jonathan Aranda and Kameron Misner had hits for the Rays.

The Rays and Royals conclude their series today at 1:10 p.m. Shane Baz will start for the Rays against Seth Lugo.
