Say this for the Tampa Bay Rays. Even their winning streaks come with a bit of drama.
The Rays won their third straight game Friday night, a 1-0 decision over the San Diego Padres.
The game finished with Rays’ outfielder Kameron Misner making a long run for a diving catch on a soft blooper hit by Oscar Gonzalez. Misner then threw to first base to double up runner Mason McCoy for the final out.
The Rays got seven shutout innings from starter Shane Baz (3-0), who allowed just four hits in seven inning. Garrett Cleavinger notched his first save after working the ninth.
The game’s only run came in the third inning, when Yandy Diaz’s sacrifice fly drove in Taylor Walls with an unearned run. Walls had reached on a throwing error.
Michael King was a hard-luck loser for the Padres, working five innings of one-run baseball.
The Rays and Padres play again today at 8:40 p.m. Ryan Pepiot will start for the Rays against Dylan Cease.
