They have played close games. They have played bitter games. They have played games with national championships and Heisman Trophy implications.

But never have Miami and FSU demonstrated why they are two programs streaming in opposite direction.

Sixth-rated Miami ran its record to 8-0 with a comfortable 36-14 victory over FSU, which fell to 1-7. A year ago, FSU was 13-0 in the regular season.

Miami won easily despite an off-week by quarterback Cam Ward, who threw for just 208 yards and no scores. But Damian Martinez ran for 148 yards and two touchdowns.  The Canes ran for 230 yards on the game.

FSU, meanwhile, struggled to move the ball. Freshman quarterback  Luke Kromenhoek hit six of 14 for 61 yards, and he had a 42-yard run to set up a touchdown. But the Seminoles passed for just 115 yards and ran for just 133.

FSU is home on Saturday against North Carolina. Miami is home against Duke.
