Grounded Bucs should lose to Falcons

Can the Tampa Bay Bucs fly with no wings?

Forever, it seems, they have been there, running deep and open for the Tampa Bay Bucs. They have been lacking at cornerback, and at offensive guard, and often at pass rusher. Ah, but for the Bucs, the great equalizer was their wideouts. If Mike Evans didn’t sting you, Chris Godwin would.

And now, they are both gone. Evans for a month, Godwin for the season. Quarterback Baker Mayfield is left with kids and castoffs for Sunday’s crucial game against the Atlanta Falcons, whose own quarterback torched them recently.

Jalen McMillan? Trey Palmer? Both of them have shown flashes, but not a lot more. It’s a lot to ask that both of them arrive at once.

Granted, a lot of people thought the Falcons might pass the Bucs this season anyway. But the NFL is a passing league. It’s going to be hard for the Bucs to survive without Evans and Godwin.

Throw in the weak pass rush, the questionable pass coverage and the doubts that must be overcome because of injuries, and it looks like a long day for the Bucs.

Prediction: Atlanta 24, Tampa Bay 10.

In other NFL games:

L.A Chargers 27, New Orleans 20.

Washington 24, Chicago 17.

Denver 31, Carolina14.

San Francisco 28, Dallas 14.

And in the college game:

Miami 30, FSU 17.

Ohio State 34, Nebraska 10.

Notre Dame 27, Navy 26.

Ole Miss 24, Oklahoma 13.

Texas 28, Vanderbilt 27.
