Forget about the way the Rays have owned this series in recent seasons.

Forget that the  Marlins are dead last in the National League East.

Forget that the Rays have been playing better in recent days.

Or, better yet, forget as much of Friday night as you can.

The Miami Marlins smoked the Tampa Bay Rays, 9-4. It was a complete humbling; Miami had 13 hits, nine runs, drew seven walks and had a hit batter. Twice in the game, the Marlins scored four runs in an inning.

Do your eyes hurt yet?

The Marlins, only 17-26 on the season, had 15 at-bats with a runner in scoring position.

The Rays pitched poorly for most of the night. Starter Taj Bradley lasted just four innings and gave up five earned runs and six hits. Reliever Mason Montgomery gave up three earned runs in his one-third of an inning.

The Rays got three hits from Chandler Simpson and two from Jose Caballero.

They fell to 20-24.

The teams play again at 4:10 p.m. in Miami. Drew Rasmussen will start for the Rays against Sandy Alcantara.
