One minute he was flying. The next, he was falling.

For Ryan Pepiot, the world turned upside just that quickly Sunday. In a finger-snap, he went from leading the parade to having it march all over him.

The Rays ended up being clobbered by the San Francisco Giants, 7-1. But it didn't start that way.

Pepiot cut through 5 2/3 innings against the Giants with little problem. He had allowed just two hits, and he was keeping up with San Francisco's Logan Webb quite nicely.

Then the bottom fell out. Pepiot gave up four hits and a walk before he was pulled, including a bases-loaded single by Dominic Smith and a run-scoring double by Christian Koss. The Giants took a 4-0 lead and never blinked.

Pepiot is now 8-10 on the season.

The Rays, again, struggled against the Giants' starting pitching. Webb went seven innings and allowed just three hits.

Ha-Seong Kim had two of the hits for the Rays.

Yandy Diaz drove in the Rays' only run with an infield hit in the eighth inning.

The Rays fell to three games under .500 (61-64).

The Rays are off today, but are home against the New York Yankees at 7:35 p.m. on Tuesday at Steinbrenner Field. Shane Baz will start for the Rays against Carlos Rodon.
