Looking back at the Bucs’ loss to Pittsburgh

September 26, 2018 general

Wednesday, 4 a.m. 5 Observations 1. Here is why you stick with Ryan Fitzpatrick. It’s better for the team, because Fitz has thrown for more than 400 yards three times. It’s better for the coaches, who will announce to the team they’re doing the right thing. And it’s better for Winston. Can you imagine the […]

Yankees handle Rays once again as season winds down

September 26, 2018 general

Wednesday, 3 a.m. Perhaps the odds are catching up to them. Perhaps, now that they have been eliminated, they have taken a collective deep breath. Perhaps the New York Yankees are simply too talented. Either way, the Tampa Bay Rays suddenly are struggling. The Rays lost a second straight home game, 9-2, for the first […]

Bucs can’t overcome early mistakes against Steelers

September 25, 2018 general

Monday, 4 a.m. In the minutes after the game got away from them, in the hours that the Magic ebbed from their beings, all the players of the Tampa Bay Bucs could do was to  question why this one got away. Interceptions and fumbles, penalties and defensive lapses. In all, there were just too many […]

Rays eliminated from playoffs as their bats fail

September 25, 2018 general

Tuesday, 3 a.m. They had been on the critical list for a while. Everyone knew the end was coming. And still, when it came, it stung. The Tampa Bay Rays were officially eliminated from the post-season Monday night. They lost a 4-1 game to the New York Yankees — managing only two hits along the […]

Bucs need for their stars to come out tonight

September 24, 2018 general

Sunday, 3 a.m. You can compare the histories if you want. The Steelers win. They have a half-dozen Super Bowl trophies, a couple of dozen Hall of Famers. They have a national following. You can talk about quarterbacks and running backs and linebackers, defensive backs and offensive linemen and owners. The Steelers win that, too. […]

Random thoughts: Wong couldn’t be more wrong

September 23, 2018 general

Sunday, 4:30 I thought it was interesting that Kolton Wong called the Rays “a bad organization” for not promoting his little brother Kean Wong. One, the Rays actually have a better record than the Cardinals, which kind of answers the “bad organization” stuff. Two, the Rays promoted outfielders Austin Matthews and Andrew Velazquez. And three, […]

Bulls shaky but win another one in final quarter

September 23, 2018 general

Sunday, 3:45 a.m. You can look at this two ways. If you’re the cheery, all-wins-are-great sort of USF Bulls fans, you can rave about their fourth quarters. After all, it says a great deal about a team by the way it finishes, and so far, the Bulls have shown a knack for pulling their feet […]

Rays hover near elimination after latest loss to Jays

September 23, 2018 general

Sunday, 3 a.m. For most of the month, we knew the chase was futile. They were too far behind. There were too many teams to pass. They had waited too late to get hot. Still, as the Tampa Bay Rays face elimination, it is an empty, hollow feeling. They are on the verge of officially […]

State roundup: Gators batter Vols for big SEC victory

September 23, 2018 general

Sunday, 2 a.m. Even when the world is dark, even when a new coach is trying to turnaround their fortunes, the Florida Gators can count on this. Tennessee. The Gators didn’t need last-second heroics this time. Florida walloped the Vols, 47-21, as Tennessee turned the ball over six times. That led to 24 Gator points […]
