Wednesday, 4 a.m.
The opponent, frankly, is awful. The offense, bluntly, was terrible.
Still, the Tampa Bay Rays won.
For a game, that will do.
The Rays slipped past Chicago, the American League’s worst team, 4-3, Wednesday night. They didn’t hit and they didn’t score and, in the end, they barely hung on. But for the first time in three games, they came out on top.
Jose Caballero had a two-run single in the second inning, the only inning the Rays scored in. Junior Caminero scored on a balk and Caballero scored on a groundout.
The Rays have had just 10 hits in their two games against the White Sox. They’re just two-for 17 with runners in scoring position. They have drawn 12 walks in the two games, but they haven’t taken advantage.
Caballero had two hits for the Rays.
Drew Rasmussen threw three perfect innings for Tampa Bay, but in the fourth, he gave up three his and two earned runs. Four relievers gave up just three hits and one earned run in five innings.
The Rays and White Sox play again tonight at 7:35p.m. at Steinbrenner Field. Taj Bradley will start for the Rays against Jonathan Cannon.
