The reason the USF Bulls won Saturday was simple.
Quarterback Byrum Brown wouldn’t let them lose.
As horrible as the Bulls have been in recent seasons, Brown’s performance was one for the record books. He passed for 435 yards and rushed for 82 more to lead the Bulls to a 42-29 victory.
Rice quarterback J.T. Daniels was as good through the air, throwing for 432 yards and three touchdowns.
USF receiver Naiem Simmons caught eight passes for 272 yards.
The Bulls trailed 21-20 midway through the third period. Simmons caught four passes for 102 yards the rest of the way.
USF is on the road against Navy Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
FSU 31, Clemson 24: The Seminoles beat Clemson for the first time since the 2014 season.
Jordan Travis threw for 289 yards in the victory for the 4-0 Seminoles.
FSU struggled to run the ball, gaining just 22 yards on 20 carries. But in overtime, the defense stopped Clemson to win the game.
FSU is home against Virginia Tech on Saturday.
Miami 41. Temple 7: Tyler Van Dyke passed for three touchdowns to lead Miami to an easy victory.
Van Dyke threw for 220 yards in the win.
Henry Parish rushed for 139 yards.
The Hurricanes are home against Georgia Tech Saturday.
Florida 22, Charlotte 7: The Gators won, but they weren’t particularly impressive.
Florida kicked five field goals and scored just one touchdown in holding off Charlotte.
Quarterback Graham Mertz hit 20 of 23 passes for 259 yards. But the Gators converted just one of nine third down situations.
Charlotte had just 210 yards of total offense.
The Gators are at Kentucky Saturday at noon.
