If there is a statement being made, perhaps the fans of the Tampa Bay Rays don’t want to hear it.
It has something to say about the upcoming playoffs and the Toronto Blue Jays.
And this: Uh-oh.
The Blue Jays, playing like a team with something to play for, clobbered the Rays, a team that doesn’t, 11-4 Friday night. The Jays have won three of the last four against the Rays, scoring 32 times and getting 45 hits.
The Jays can clinch the post-season with one more win, which would give them an opening-round series against the Rays.
The Blue Jays certainly looked like a playoff team. The Rays, sadly, did not. They made three errors, and their pitching was roughed up pretty well. Of their seven hits, five came in their four-run sixth inning.
In that inning, Yandy Diaz hit his 22nd home run. Junior Caminero had a two-run single.
Bo Bichette had four hits and Vlad Guerrero had three
for the Jays.
The Jays and Rays play again today at 3:07 at the Rogers Center. Shawn Armstrong will pitch for the Rays against Hyun Jin Ryu.
