Miami waited too long to get started Saturday night. It will surely cost them their ranking as the No. 1 team in the nation.
The Hurricanes fell 31-24 to Notre Dame, a furious comeback falling just short ... and a little wide. UM quarterback Darian Mensah, who threw three touchdown passes, threw an 18-yard pass to Elija Lofton that would have tied the game, but Lofton couldn't complete the catch.
Notre Dame quarterback C.J. Carr threw for 318 yards and three scores, helping Notre Dame jump to a 24-3 lead.
Lofton had seven catches for 113 yards for Miami. Teammate Cooper Barkate had 10 catches for 92 yards. Both were needed as star Malachi Toney missed the game.
Miami is at home Saturday at noon against Duke.
Oklahoma 23, Florida 7: The offensive explosiveness that the Gators showed early in the season seems to have gone.
Florida has scored a combined 15 points in back-to-back losses, dropping the Gators to 5-4 on the season.
Star running back Jadan Baugh had just 35 yards rushing Saturday. Quarterback Trammel Jones Jr. had only 133 yards passing and threw two interceptions.
The Gators had been ranked 25th in the nation.
The Gators travel to Kentucky on Saturday. The game time has not been announced.
Florida State 31, Boston College 24: So how long has it been since FSU had an undefeated head coach?
Well, it's been a few hours now, thank you for asking.
Rick Stockstill, stepping in for fired head coach Mike Norvell, saw his Seminole team come from behind to beat Boston College, 31-24 Saturday. Not since Jimbo Fisher in 2010 has an FSU coach started 1-0.
Amari Thomas rushed for 98 yards and scored twice to lead the Noles' win. FSU receiver Micahi Danzy had seven catches for 86 yards.
FSU fell behind 10-0 before rallying.
The Seminoles travel to Pitt for a 7 p.m. game on Friday night.
