The offensive machine that is the USF Bulls kept rolling Saturday night.
The question is how USF will manage in the most important part of its schedule.
The 19th-ranked Bulls ran their record to 6-1 with a comfortable 48-13 victory of FAU. USF wasn't quite as explosive as it had been over the last month, but it pulled away with 27 consecutive points in the second half.
The Bulls scored 48 points. Over their last four games, they've 228 points. They rushed for 259 yards. In their last four games, they've rushed for 1,224 yards.
Bulls' coach Alex Golesh also dipped into his bag of tricks. Offensive guard Cole Skinner scored for the second straight week. And USF converted a long onside kick in the first half.
The Bulls also had two touchdowns called back -- one by an officials' review and the other by penalty.
As usual, quarterback Byrum Brown led the Bulls. He threw for 256 yards and three touchdowns. He laos ran for 111 yards and another score.
FAU stayed close for a while because quarterback Caden Veltkamp threw for 244 yards and the team was seven-for-eight in going for it on fourth down. But the Owls ran for only 23 yards on 30 attempts.
Jeremiah Kroger caught 90 yards worth of passes. Nykahi Davenport ran for 71 yards.
USF is at Memphis on noon on Friday.
Florida 23, Mississippi State 21: When things are off-track, as they are with the Gators, you accept a big play whereever you can find it.
Take Saturday, when the Gators staved off losing with a leaping interception by 349-pound defensive lineman Michai Boireau with 21 seconds to play.
The Bulldogs ad driven the ball downfield, and had seemingly drawn within distance of a winning field goal. That's when Boireau peeled back into the throwing lane and picked off Blake Shapen.
The Gators, 3-4 on the season, had to scramblre o hold off Mississippi State. The Bulldogs threw for 324 yards and rushed for 144.
The Gators moved the ball themselves. Quarterback D.J. Lagway threw fors 280 yards (although he threw two interceptions). Jadan Baugh ran for 150 yards and Vernell Brown III caught five passes for 95 yards.
The Gators play on Nov. 1 against Georgia in Jacksonville at 3:30 p.m.
