You can discuss how much this stretch run of the Tampa Bay Rays matters. On the other hand, it seems to matter a lot to Brandon Lowe.
Lowe was at it again Sunday, homering for the third time in four games to lead the Rays to a 7-4 victory over Washington. This time, it was the fifth grand slam of Lowe's career and led the team to its first sweep since late June. It was Lowe's 28th homer of the season.
Lowe's homer led the Rays to a six-run second inning. The Senators came back with three unearned runs in the fourth, but Rays' pitching held them off.
Lowe only has one season — 2021, when he had 39 —when had he more homers than he does this season.
Josh Lowe, who had two homers on Saturday, added a double and a triple Sunday.
Ian Seymour had his second straight strong start, allowing four hits and one earned run oin his five innings. In all, the Rays struck out 16 Washington batters.
The Rays are now 67-69 as September approaches.
The Rays now return home to face Seattle at 7:35 p.m. at Steinbrenner Field. Shane Baz will open for the Rays against Luis Castillo.
