So who needs go tiptoe their way into the college football season?

Well, usually, that list included the University of Florida, which has been known to pepper its early-season schedule with a soft touch or two.

This year has been different. The Gators, for a change, have opened their season with two SEC conference games. The results? The Gators are 2-0 and have scored 89 points, a suggestion that they could contend for the SEC East championship.

In two games, quarterback Kyle Trask has thrown for 684 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Oh, Saturday's 38-24 victory over South Carolina wasn't perfect. The Gators were able to strike quickly, but they weren't good enough to run away the way as they had in their opening-week victory over Ole Miss.

"We've got to get a lot better," Florida coach Dan Mullin said. "We certainly have to get a lot better with how we finished the game. Offensively, [we] should have finished the game much sooner."

The Gators play Texas A&M on Saturday.

In two games, Trask and tight end Kyle Pitts have combined for six touchdowns.

We're not a team that's just force-feeding the ball to one guy," Mullen said. "We're going to spread the ball around to a bunch of different players."

Cincinnati 28, USF 7: The job facing new USF coach Jeff Scott didn't get any easier Saturday.

A week after the team was clobbered by Notre Dame, the Bulls lost a turnover-filled game 28-7 to Cincinnati. The Bulls threw five picks in their loss, while Cincy threw three.

The teams combined for four turnovers on the first 11 snaps.

“I’m obviously disappointed by the result of this game," said Scott. "I really felt like our defense in the first half kept us in the game and continued to give the offense some good field position that maybe we haven’t had a lot this year. Unfortunately, we weren’t playing complementary football. Our offense is just not executing very well and every time we got a turnover, it seemed like we turned the ball back over to them and it’s difficult when do you that. Our defense was shorthanded today with a lot of guys we normally count on out. I really felt like for the majority of the day our defense played well against a very talented offense, creating four turnovers.”

FSU 41, Jacksonville State 24: For a half, all an FSU fan could do was shake his head and wonder how far a program can sink.

Late in the second quarter, the Seminoles trailed Jacksonville State, 21-3. Oh, it turned out okay. The Noles outscored the Gamecocks 34-3 the rest of the way to win their first game of the season.

Sophomore quarterback Jordan Travis led FSU on five straight touchdown drives to rally for a second-half lead and pulled away for a victory. Travis hit 12 of 17 for 210 yards.

"We've seen great velocity, accuracy in practice," said coach Mike Norvell. "The fact he didn't practice much is a tremendous compliment to him. He had some unbelievable throws downfield, tremendous part of the offense and the entire team.
