Florida State QB James Blackman threw four TDs./STEVEN MUNCIE

There have been bigger bowl games, better bowl games. There has been big trophies and confetti and national titles.

Still, when you consider where FSU was at one point during the season, this one wasn't bad.

FSU thumped Southern Miss, 42-13, to close out its season at the Independence Bowl Saturday. And while it's a small victory

compared to a lot of FSU bowls, remember that the Seminoles were 3-6 at one point this year.

The Seminoles won their last four to finish with a winning record.

FSU fell behind 6-0, then scored 33 straight points in the win. Quarterback James Blackman threw for four touchdowns (and 233 yards) in the victory.

For the Seminoles, Cam Akers had 94 yards. Auden Tate caught five passes for 84 yards and three scores.

Akers finished his freshman season with 1,024 yards.
