Crisp, it was not. Smooth, it was not. Elegant, it was not.

But for all of the style points that the Tampa Bay Rays' 9-6 victory over the Atlanta Braves lacked Wednesday night, the Rays' determination made up for a lot of it.

The Rays were not their efficient selves. They didn't get to popups. They didn't pitch
