Saturday, 3 p.m.

It was a thousand years ago, it seems, and the voices were getting louder.

Formere St. Louis Dispatch columnist Bernie Miklaz and I were arguing over the plights of the (then) St. Louis Cardinals and the Bucs. The Bucs were the worst franchise, I insisted. No, he said, the Cardinals we're.

"Hugh Culverhouse," I said.

"Bill Bidwell," he said.

"Booker Reese."

"Clyde Duncan."

"Charles McRae."

"Steve Little."

And on it went, each of us describing a gaseous swamp of a franchise. Things got better for both teams. But they still aren't exactly dynasties.

Sunday, they get to get to measure against each other again. This time, the Bucs seem to have an advantage in the matchups. The Cardinals are a good running team, but the Bucs are solid against the run. The Bucs have a young secondary, but the Cards have a rookie quarterback.

Also, the Bucs are finally at home again. That should be just enough.

Prediction: Tampa Bay 20. Arizona 17.

Other NFL games:

Cleveland 30, Buffalo 28.

New Orleans 27, Atlanta 20.

Rams 34, Steelers 31.

The Colleges

FSU at Boston College: FSU tries to start over without Willie Taggart, but the Seminoles might find there are more problems than just Taggart. Prediction: Boston College 30, FSU 24.

Vanderbilt at Florida: The Gators are a good team, but they're short of great. Vandy will give them trouble for a half, but big plays should make the difference. Prediction: Florida 27, Vanderbilt 21.

Louisville at Miami: The Hurricanes might have found themselves in a solid win over FSU. Prediction: Miami 24, Louisville 20.

Other games:

Alabama 23, LSU 20.

Penn State 26, Minnesota 17

Texas 24, Kansas State 21.
