Trent and Rah: Reflections of Jacksonville

August 17, 2017 general

Thursday, 3 a.m. The last shred of optimism to surround Raheem Morris died here. The last ounce of greatness by the Tampa Bay Bucs’ defense did, too. And, the wheels were greased for the end of the Trent Dilfer era. That’s the thing about the Bucs playing the Jacksonville Jaguars. Too often, it has meant […]

Rays’ stranded runners haunt them in defeat

August 17, 2017 general

Thursday, 2 a.m. As the victories have disappeared for the Tampa Bay Rays, there is no doubt of where they have gone. To die at second base, and to be abandoned at third. Once again, the Tampa Bay Rays left a victory on base Wednesday night. They lost, 3-2, and went 0-for-6 with runners in […]

Second episode of Hard Knocks invites you inside

August 16, 2017 general

Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. Imagine you could be in the room. Imagine you could pull up a chair between general manager Jason Licht, coach Dirk Koetter and ex-kicker Roberto Aguayo. Imgine you could listen to Jameis Winston’s chatter, or Gerald McCoy’s goofing around, or play toy guns with Brent Grimes. Yeah, that’s what Hard Knocks is […]

August 16, 2017 general

Wednesday, 4 am. A dozen plays, and zero points. A dozen plays, and back-peddling. A dozen plays, and nothing to brag about. A dozen plays, and there was more escape than there was excellence. A brief look, and what do you think of your Tampa Bay Bucs today? A dozen plays, and the Bucs are […]

Snell, of all people, ends Rays’ slide with first win

August 16, 2017 general

Wednesday, 3 a.m. Perhaps the most surprising part of the recent nose-dive by the Tampa Bay Rays is the guy who ended it. Blake Snell? Who had him in the pool? Snell earned his first victory of the season Tuesday night, and he gave the Rays at least a moment’s respite from their 2-8 slump, […]

Who should the Bucs have taken instead of Aguayo?

August 15, 2017 general

Tuesday, 4 a.m. Looking back, we all agree it was a bad pick. The glee in which the Bucs pulled it off only serves to make it worse. Looking back, it was boneheaded. It was foolhardy. It was knuckle-headed. It was a team looking to show how smart it was, only to prove the opposite. […]

Heard this before? Punchless Rays lose again

August 15, 2017 general

Tuesday, 3 a.m. Alex Colome, the closer for the Tampa Bay Rays, has one save in 12 days. Lately, there has been no saving the Rays. Tampa Bay lost for the eighth time in their last 10 games Monday night, absorbing a 2-1 loss to the last-place Toronto Blue Jays, 2-1. The Rays have scored […]

Tebow has a single in victory over Threshers

August 15, 2017 general

Tuesday, 2 a.m. He is not the first quarterback taken in the first round. He is not the first quarterback to have the league pass on his talents. He is not the first Christian quarterback. Tim Tebow is not the first former Florida quarterback to fizzle out of the NFL. He is not the first […]
