Maybe the Tampa Bay Rays had a break coming.

Maybe two.

Things finally went right for the sliding Rays Friday night in a 5-4 victory over ,the red-hot Arizona Diamondbacks. Put it this way: the team was low before Lowe and Lowe helped the team’s rally.

Start with the eighth inning, when the Rays came in trailing 2-1. But with two outs, Josh Lowe hit a high, lazy fly ball. The thing is, Lowe placed it just right and it fell in for a hit. The ball bounded high off the turf, allowing two runs to score.

Dylan Carlson singled in another run to give the Rays a 4-2 lead going into the ninth.

With two outs, however,  Corbin Carroll hit a two-run homer to right off of Pete Fairbanks field to tie the game. It would have been Fairbanks’ 24th save of the year. Instead, it was his third blown save of the season.

Oddly, Fairbanks was the winning pitcher (3-3).

In the bottom of the ninth, it was Brandon Lowe’s turn. Jonny DeLuca, who had walked, scored from first when the ball was bobbled by center fielder Jake McCarthy.

Add it up: In the late going, the Rays had a bloop fall in and a bobbled hit. It makes up for some of the plays that have gone the other way this season,

The Rays managed 10 hits Friday night. Christopher Morel, Jose Lowe, Junior Caminero and Dylan Carlson all had two. Carlson had a home run and two RBI.

Ryan Pepiot made his return from the injury list and went 5 1/3 innings. He gave up five hits and two unearned runs.

Tampa Bay and Arizona play again at Tropicana Field today at 4:10 p.m. Jeffrey Springs will start for the Rays against Zac Gallen.
