At a time of year when most players are wishing for a new start, Taj Bradley is concentrating on a new middle.

Bradley has had a rough season all in all, complete with a streak in which he lost eight of nine games. Still, Bradley showed immense potential when he won the AL Pitcher of the Month honors in July.

That, and a strong finish to the season, gives the Rays a reason to hoipe going into next year.

Bradley won his second straight game in the Rays’ 2-1 victory over Boston Friday night, He worked six scoreless innings allowing just three hits. He didn’t give up a home run, which has led to his downfall. He avoided the big inning where opponents clustered hits.

He won to improve his record to 8-19.

The Rays didn’t hit much, either. But in the seventh they got a run-scoring double from Josh Lowe (who drove in Jonathan Aranda). Christopher Morel drew a bases loaded double for the second run.

The Red Sox scored on a sacrifice fly by Nick Sogard in the seventh.

Edwin Uceta earned his fifth save for the Rays.

Josh Lowe had two of the Rays’ five hits.

The Rays and Red Sox play again today at 4:10 p.m. Shane Baz will start for the Rays against Kutter Crawford.
