There are nights they look as if their season is over, nights when they look as if they are ready for the off-season to commence.
Take Wednesday, for instance.
The Rays were hammered by the surging Detroit Tigers, 7-1. a thorough beating that left them at 78-80 on the season. It's the most games the Rays have lost since the 2017 season.
The Rays, who have had terrific pitching lately, didn't have it this time. Starter Zack Littell gave up seven hits and three runs in 4 2/3 innings. The bullpen gave up another three runs as the Tigers slowly pulled away.
The Rays' only run came on a home run by Junior Caminero. The Rays had seven hits, but they were 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position.
Caminero and Jonny DeLuca each had two hits for the Rays.
The Rays and Tigers close out their series today at 1:10 p.m. The Rays have not announced a starter. The Tigers will start with Reese Olson.
