Littell sharp in victory./TIM WIRT

Wednesday, 4 a.m.

When their pitching is going well, not even the weather can slow down the Tampa Bay Rays.

Zack Littell gave the Rays their second straight strong pitching performance, throwing five innings of shutout baseball in the Rays’ 5-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals Tuesday night.

Littell allowed just four hits before departing in a 2 1/2 hour rain delay.

Littell’s performance followed a performance by Taj Bradley, who allowed no runs and three hits in 5 2/3 innings in a 5-0 win over Washington.

The Rays, who played into the early morning because of the constant rains, held a 1-0 lead going into the long delay. But they came back with four more runs and six hits after the break.

Richie Palacios had three hits to lead the Rays’ offense. Brandon Lowe hit his seventh home run.

As a team, the Rays have allowed just nine hits over their last two games.

The teams play again tonight at 8:10 p.m. Ryan Pepiot will start for the Rays against ex-Ray Michael Wacha.
