Has anyone considered that maybe the Tampa Bay Rays are playing their outfielders on the wrong side of the fence?

After all, that seems to be where the opponents are hitting the ball these days.

The Rays were hammered on Wednesday afternoon, losing 11-1 to the Los Angeles Angels. The Angels launched six home runs — including four in the sixth inning.

It follows a season-long trend. The Rays have given up 18 home runs in their 12 games, third most in the major leagues. They’re now 1-6 in their last seven games.

How bad was it? So bad that Mike Trout hit two home runs, and that wasn’t the stat of the game. Teammate Jo Adell, hitting only .185 on the season, had two homers in the same inning (the sixth).

It was another loss for Zack Littell, who is 0-3 on the season.

The Rays had just six hits — three of them by Junior Caminero, who scored the Rays’ only run on a single by Jonathan Aranda.

The Rays play next tonight at 7 p.m. against Atlanta at Steinbrenner Field. Taj Bradley will start for the Rays against Bryce Elder.
