Lightning stretches winning streak to seven games

January 6, 2020 general

Monday, 4 a.m. Sleep? Who needs sleep? The Tampa Bay Lightning, fresh off a win in Canada against the Ottawa Senators, had to finish a game, clear customs and travel to Carolina for an afternoon game, still had enough energy for its seventh straight victory Sunday afternoon. The Lightning jumped to a quick 2-0 lead […]

Lightning wins another comeback against Ottawa

January 5, 2020 general

Sunday, 4 a.m. Will this be remembered as the two weeks that saved the season for the Tampa Bay Lightning? Tyler Johnson scored on a nice pass from Victor Hedman to score the winning goal with 90 seconds to play. Alex Killorn added an empty netter with seven seconds to play. Perhaps. The Lightning won […]

Will the Hall finally admit Bucs’ Lynch?

January 4, 2020 general

Saturday, 8 a.m. Greatness isn’t supposed to fade. Hope, however, does. And so those of us who were convinced of John Lynch’s excellence are here again, on the porch of the Hall of Fame, hoping someone finally answers the door for the ex-Buc safety. You know how I feel. I think Lynch is deserving. The […]

Former Bucs’ coach Sam Wyche dies at 74

January 3, 2020 general

Friday, 4 a.m. I always said that Sam Wyche had a great personality. The problem was that he had about 17 of them, and you could never count on coming upon the right one. Sam, the former Bucs and Bengals coach, died Thursday, and he took all of his personalities with him. The funny guy. […]

What should the Bucs do about Jameis?

January 2, 2020 general

Tuesday, 4 a.m. Does he think about 33 touchdowns? Or does he think about 30 interceptions. It’s an easy day for Jameis Winston. His Bucs are out of regular-season games, and there are no playoffs to be had. He just made a ton of money and threw for a ton of yards. His team won […]

Johnson keys explosive Gopher offense in Outback

January 2, 2020 general

Wednesday, 3 a.m. The last time the Minnesota Gophers mattered, dinosaurs ruled the earth. Thanks to a receiver named Tyler Johnson, they’re making a comeback. The Gophers, not the dinosaurs. Johnson scored on a 73-yard catch in the fourth quarter to lift the Gophers to a 31-24 victory over Auburn Tuesday in the Outback Bowl. […]

Lightning wins big comeback over Buffalo

January 1, 2020 general

Tuesday, 4 a.m. The latest victory by the Tampa Bay Lightning won’t win any beauty contests. The Lightning started slow, and it dug itself a hole that seemed hard to climb out of. It was behind Buffalo by three goals before it ever got rolling. But the Bolts won their fourth straight game with a […]

Looking back on the Bucs loss to the Falcons

December 31, 2019 general

Tuesday, 4 a.m. 5 Thoughts Isn’t it interesting that the thought of re-signing Jameis Winston is the “win now” option. Winston has won 28 of 70 games. Wouldn’t that be “win someday…maybe?” 2. I found it amusing that Mark Dominik, former General Manager in charge of Oops, is giving Jason Licht advice on where to […]

Perine leads Gators to Orange Bowl win

December 31, 2019 general

Tuesday, 3 a.m. For most of the season, he was just another guy for the Florida Gators. Another face in the team photo. Another piece of the puzzle. Then came the Orange Bowl. And Lamical Perine became a star. Perine led the Gators in rushing this season (they were last in the SEC), but he […]
