Finally, another goaltender was hotter than the Tampa Bay Lightning. Finally, a game didn't end in victory for the Bolts. Finally, the offense grew cold at the wrong time.
The streak is over.
After winning 11 games in a row, the Tampa Bay Lightning has lost.
The Bolts, one win short of setting a new franchise record, lost a 3-2 game in a shootout against a scoring-challenged St. Louis team at the Enterprise Center.
Goaltender Joel Hofer made 34 saves -- and all three shootout attempts by the Bolts. It was his play that allowed the Blues to stop the Lightning.
The Blues took a 2-0 lead in the first period with two goals in 30 seonds. Jake Neighbors and Nick Bjugstad both scored.
The Bolts came back to tie the game with a pair of goals in 62 seconds. Nikita Kucherov and Oliver Bjorkstrand both scored on power plays. It was Kucherov's 24th goal of the season.
In the shootout, Jordan Kyrou was the only player to find the net.
Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 19 of 21 shots.
The Bolts travel to Dallas to play the Stars on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the American Airlines Center.
