They started strong. They finished strong. And in the middle, the USF women were pretty strong.

As a result, the 22nd ranked Bulls blew away Arkansas State, 98-55, Friday night to soar to 3-0 on the season.

The Bulls got 25 points from Kitija Laksa and 19 from Maria Jespersen.

Jespersen also reached 500 career rebounds. Jespersen now has 902 points and 502 rebounds.

Both Laura Ferreira and Shae Leverett had double-doubles. Ferreira had 14 points and 10 rebounds, Leverett 13 and 10. Alba Prieto had 12 points and Laia Flores 11 assists.

I’m happy with how we defended and defended the arc primarily," said USF coach Jose Fernandez. "We came out of the locker room at half time and they took pride on the defensive end.”

USF hit its first eight shots of the game and soared to a 30-10 lead. USF also outscored Arkansas State 30-11 in the fourth quarter.

We’re playing eight, three of them are freshman," Fernandez said. "They are getting great experience. Right now, that’s what we need them to do. I thought in camp they got 30 practices in 40 days and two scrimmages against two very, very good teams. Right now, they are five games into their college careers, counting the two scrimmages and they’ve played against some pretty good competition.

USF plays against Butler on Monday night.
