The bowl streak goes back a long way. The possible winning season does, too.

But the coach on the sideline?

He just took over, temporarily, the big job for the first time.

Odell Haggins, the interim football coach at FSU, led his team to a 42-10 victory over Louisiana Monroe that made a bowl game – and with a win there, a winning season – possible. Haggins was coaching instead of the just-departed Jimbo Fisher, who took the Texas A&M job.

I’m not going to say Florida State is 6-6 and they had a subpar season,” said Haggins, grateful for the chance to lead the Seminoles during an emotion-filled game.

I’m going to say this: our kids learned a lot this year about life. I’m so happy for them.”

Said athletic director Stan Wilcox: We want somebody that wants to be here and continue the legacy that has been built here.”

Jacques Patrick rushed for 155 yards and Cam Akers for 117 in FSU's easy win. Quarterback James Blackman threw for 197 yards for Haggins, a longtime FSU assistant. No, he doesn't want the job permanently.

I want Mr. Wilcox, Mr. Thrasher to hire the best person for it. Take me out of it. I’m not trying to keep this job,” Haggins said in a serious tone when asked if he would like to be a head coaching candidate.

The reason why I say that, as a coach at Florida State, a former player at Florida State, I can impact lives,” he continued before a laugh. “I hope the next coach keeps me.”
