He missed the Pro Bowl last year.

Frankly, he might miss it again this year.

On the other hand, Lovie Smith doesn't need an all-star game to convince him about the abilities of linebacker Lavonte David. To him, David is the best player at his position in the league. It doesn't matter than he hasn't had a sack all year, or that he hasn't had an interception all year, or that he has only one forced fumble all year.

“When I say he's the best outside linebacker, it's from coaching the linebackers I've been around and their makeup,'' said Smith. “He's as good as there is.''
