Testimonial Tuesday; Talking about Gary Shelton

The best way to describe Gary, in all the years he covered my playing career, is to say that even in his critique of the sometimes good and at times bad, he was uncompromisingly fair. I really think being able to not only see both sides of the story but to bring levity and entertainment while doing do is one of Gary's greatest assets. He has always had his unique style of covering sports with great guile and with his trademark wit. I am thankful he was there to tell my story and that he will do so for others with GarySheltonsports.com

When I was playing ball, and even now with reality shows and being out there, it seems to me that the press rarely gets it right. Gary is one of the rare ones. He's not afraid to ask the difficult question and he always seems to understand or at least accurately portray the opinions and positions of his subjects. My best compliment to Gary is that if he calls me I always call him back! For me that list of people is very small.

Gary Shelton has been on the forefront of sports reporting. He’s always been honest and candid—and many times, humorous—with his side of the story. He is fun to read, as he puts a “this is it” twist to his journalism style. Gary is thought-provoking, honest, intriguing, and truthful. I do miss reading his articles. Sports readers in Tampa Bay will now be at a loss for the sports reporting that Gary brought to us.

I used to admire Gary for not only how great his columns were and the topics he picked. But after he came down and listened my story, and the way he wrote that, the most important thing I think was his empathy. I could never thank him enough. The compassion and understanding was 10 times greater on anything I accomplished on the field. I'll never forget it.
