The bond with the crowd comes quickly. It can hit like a thunderbolt, and it can attach a fan with a player for an eternity.

It can be because of effort, the way it was with Mike Alstott. It can be because of grit, the way it once was with Marty St. Louis. It can be with grace, the way it was with Lee Roy Selmon. It can be with a goofy personality, like David Price.

It is not stardom, not exactly. That is defined by numbers, by awards, by big contracts, all of them lay atop each other until they are so large
