Here in the throes of a sweep, let it be known that C.J. Cron is the man handling the broom.

Cron's hot streak continued on Wednesday, as he got two hits, including his team-leading 10th home run, and scored three runs in the Rays' 5-3 win over Kansas City. Over his last nine games, Cron his hitting .395 with three homers and six RBI.

Oh, there were others in the cleanup crew, too, including relief pitcher Matt Andriese, who threw three scoreless innings in relief of starter Jake Faria, who lasted just 4 1/3 innings. There was Denard Span and Wilson Ramos, who had two hits each. There was Alex Colome, who earned his ninth save.

But mostly, there was Cron, who is showing why the Rays preferred him over Logan Morrison and Corey Dickerson in the off-season.

"I think we’ve proven that we can win ballgames," Cron said. "T.he tough part is the consistency. Hopefully, it can be a building block and we can keep going."

Added manager Kevin Cash: "He produced. He's finding a way to get hits. He's helped us a lot. I hope he's getting hot at the right time."

The Rays are now 19-22 on the season.

Faria simply didn't have his command against the Royals, walking four and hitting a batter. But the bullpen of  Chaz Roe, Andriese and Colome shut out Kansas City the rest of the way.

"It was a battle for him from pitch one," Cash said. "He couldn’t correct it and gt it in the zone consisistenly. When you give up five free passes. you're putting yourself in harms way against any offense."

The Rays now travel to Anaheim for a four-game set. In the opener, Chris Archer pitches against Tyler Skaggs. The game begins at 10:07 p.m.
