Monday, 11:55 a.m.

A few days ago, first place was the ultimate compliment to the Tampa Bay Rays.

Why, they were plucky. They were scrappy. They overachieved. They had great pitching and great defense and they found a way to score a few runs. All was good.

But lately, first place for the Rays is the ultimate indictment of the American League East.
