It’s better elsewhere for Tampa Bay icons

It's a nice place, Tampa Bay. Good weather. Nice beaches. Pretty water. Great sunsets. Fish for dinner.

So why does no one stay?

Why does no one pick here?

Here, there always seem to be more flights leaving than arriving. Here, people stop by on their way on their way to somewhere else. Here, people visit.

Joe Maddon chose not to stay.

Andrew Friedman chose not to stay.

Marty St. Louis chose not to stay.

And so it goes, and so they go. Darrelle Reavis. David Price. Carl Crawford. Nik Khabibulen. They chased bigger dollars and better deals, and to them, another team's colors looked just fine. Tampa Bay is a weigh station, a halfway house, a place to play until the start of Double Jeopardy, where the money doubles.
