Not that the Florida fans, exhuberent as they can be, are pumped about the new quarterback

But, um, where does this new statue go?

Okay, okay. Not eve Gator fans are that pumped. Still, Luke Del Rio made a fine opening statement as quarterack of the Gators Friday night. Del Rio hit 10 of 11 passes for 176 yards and two scores. It was a promise that quarterback deficiencies won't haunt the Gators the way they did last year.

Orange & Blue Debut

Coach Jim McElwain had to like what he saw from his team.

“Luke I felt did a good job at letting the game come to him, and it’s amazing what happens when you throw it to the open guy,” UF coach Jim McElwain said of Del Rio, who didn’t throw any interceptions. “He got a pretty good stat line, I don’t know what it was, but I think he did a pretty decent job of that.”

Del Rio's performance was the highlight of the Florida sprint game. But he wasn't the only highlight. Kicker Eddy Piniero kicked three long field goals, nickelback Dukw Dawkins had two interceptions.

Austin Appleby hit six of eight passes for the Orange for 44 yards (and two of three for 36 yards for the Blue) in a backup role.

Freshman Feleipe Franks threw three interceptions for the Orange team.
