Sunday, 1 a.m.

Perhaps it will be remembered as another painful defeat.

And perhaps it will be remembered as the night David Collins said hello.

Overall, the night wasn't a keeper for the USF Bulls, who fell 71-69 to UCF. USF fell to 0-7 in the American Athletic Conference and 7-13 overall.

But Collins, making his first start for USF, scored 14 points and had five assists to give the Bulls a glimmer of hope. Stephan Jiggetts scored 21 to lead the Bulls.

“I see a little bit of B.J. Taylor in David Collins," said USF coach Brian Gregory.

"Tough, physical guard. Shoots the ball well enough to keep you honest, but can get to the basket.”

USF led by seven at the half and had a one-point lead with four minutes to play. But B.J. Taylor scored 25 for UCF, including hitting 10 of 11 free throws, to lead the Knights to the win.

“It was a great environment here," Gregory said. "The student section had a lot of people in it, the crowd was great. Hopefully just kind of a glimpse in what we can get to. We have to do our part, and I think tonight we took some steps in that.”

Justin Taylor had 12 points for USF.

The Bulls now travel to New Orleans to play Tulane in a Thursday game. The tip-off is at 9 p.m.
