I have always understood friction between a general manager and a coach when things aren’t going well. Both men see the way to fix things. But I’ve always been confused why success seems to split up partnerships. Rich McKay and Gruden. Bobby Beathard and Joe Gibbs. George Young and Bill Parcells. Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnson. Is it all ego? Why isn’t winning enough?
