Jerry Angelo is a former personnel director for the Bucs and former general manager of the Bears. Each week, Angelo answers your questions regarding the NFL. Send your questions to GarySheltonsports@gmail.com with "ask the expert'' in the subject line. The most interesting question will be selected.

Jameis Winston says he probably isn’t going to the NFL draft. Now it comes out that it might have been Roger Goodell’s idea. Why wouldn’t the league want to have the potential No. 1 draft pick on the stage? Is he that toxic?

If the league really doesn’t want him there, then obviously they see it as a potential land mine for them and Winston.

Will there be picketing, that will draw the attention of the national media and taking the focus off the draft?

Folks, if it ends up being wall to wall coverage of 300 young women picketing the draft, I can assure you that the fans will wish Winston was at home with a nice low profile. You’re not thinking through the negative possibilities.
I love these Jerry Angelo pieces. Please keep them up, Gary. Very cool.

No one will care at all a day after the draft. If Jameis is drafted first, he’ll be on a plane to Tampa the next day to be introduced and only the fans who actually went to the draft will be disappointed for a day or two. My concerned is he shows up overweight! Have you all seen the latest Instagram photo?

I saw the photos. Not clear when they were taken. He was in fine shape of the combine. If I were the Bucs, I’d check that out. But I disagree. I think Winston, and the Bucs, are in the business of selling hope. I think it’s better he’s at the draft to do it.

The biggest day in a young man’s life, and Winston will not attend the draft?
This is not going to endear him with the Fans.
Whatever his reason is, I hope that he changes his mind, and lets the team and fans enjoy having the first pick, and create some excitement.
I know that the Bucs can not demand that he be there, but a strong suggestion may be in order here.
Am I wrong?

I think it would be in Winston’s best interest to show up, put on a good face, give the interviews to everyone at Chicago and start the next phase of his playing career. Hiding out at home in his livingroom seems pretty lame, in my opinion.
